Background

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 is a mucinous glycoprotein tumor marker. It is a glycolipid on the cell membrane and generally occurs in the pancreas, gallbladder and liver. Abnormal CA19-9 values indicate a suspected malignancy, which is common in colorectal and pancreatic cancer.
